IISMA 2024: Try First to Find Out (SDGs 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)

Livia Bellatrix Roberts, is the only student of S1 Nutrition, Faculty of Public Health who has the opportunity to become an IISMA awardee in 2024. Having a desire to study abroad makes her active in fighting for her dreams through IISMA. Located at the University of Szeged, Hungary, Livia has decided to participate in courses that are in line with her current study program, namely food safety and quality control. By shaping her mindset, knowledge, and skills during her studies abroad, she hopes to be able to adopt these innovations into her home study program. The adoption is done to strengthen infrastructure and industry, both within the campus and national scope in accordance with SDGs Number 9, namely Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Scholarship teaches the character of initiative and active in seeking various information. Departing in September 2024, Livia began making various preparations to support her studies in Hungary, such as taking care of the required files in English to clothing that suits the climate there.

As part of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy, the IISMA Program focuses on improving students’ academic abilities and competencies in the form of student exchanges abroad. IISMA is also a flagship program of Emancipation Campus as an effort to develop cross-cultural appreciation and understanding, such as the courses that Livia will take outside of linear courses. Adhering to the slogan “try first to find out”, Livia finally succeeded in

becoming an IISMA 2024 awardee in the sixth semester after failing in the fourth semester yesterday. That failure actually led Livia to the gate of success when she was able to find and fix the small gaps in her mistakes in the previous semester. It is important to know yourself intensely, such as what targets you are striving for in the academic or non-academic fields, how to establish communication, and how to solve a problem you are facing. Routine research and literacy also helped Livia in making her choice of IISMA. These are the points highlighted in this year’s IISMA essay and interview. However, there are many things to consider when she finally decides to try again, considering that not all IISMA courses can be converted to her home university. Based on her experience, Livia also advised that it is important to involve others to broaden perceptions and evaluations, as happened when FKM lecturers guided her through the registration process and essay writing. Learning from others is one of the efforts in improving oneself. Prepare as well as possible whatever small things you will do.
