GENIUS is an acronym for Gerakan Edukasi dan Pemberian Pangan Bergizi untuk Siswa. GENIUS is implemented to prepare a healthy and quality generation through food and nutrition interventions. This activity was implemented on a national scale in 10 provinces and 50 districts/cities. The number of target beneficiaries of this activity is 25 thousand students, of which 2,500 elementary school students in each target province have been determined by the Provincial PPK and authorized by the Provincial KPA. For East Java province, there are 5 target beneficiary districts/cities, namely Probolinggo City, Blitar Regency, Kediri Regency, Tulungagung Regency, and Sidoarjo Regency.
GENIUS activities carried out by AIPGI members as provincial coaches are divided into 4 stages, namely Baseline and Thematic Education I, Thematic Education II, Thematic Education III, and then Endline and Thematic Education IV. Baseline and Thematic Education I were carried out on Friday (06/10/23) in Probolinggo City, namely SDN Jrebeng Kidul, SDN Wonoasih 1, and SDN Wonoasih 2. The other district, Baseline and Thematic Education I were carried out on Monday (09/10/23) in Blitar District, namely SDN Karangbendo 04, SDN Sidorejo 05, and SDN Sumberasri 01. In Tulungagung District, namely SDN 1 Tulungrejo, SDN 1 Tiudan, and SDN 2 Ketanon. In the Kediri district, these are SDN Tunge II, SDN Tempurejo II, and SDN Sumberagung I. In Sidoarjo District, they are SDN Trompoasri 3, SDN Dukuhsari I, and SDN Kedungrejo 2. In this event, students were given education with the
theme of the three uses of food (Triguna Makanan). This aims to help elementary school children understand the basic function of eating food for their health.
The Thematic Education II was held on Saturday (21/10/23) and Saturday (28/10/23). In Thematic Education II, educational material was given with the theme of the importance of breakfast and healthy snacks. This aims to make students understand the role of breakfast and choose snacks that are nutritious and healthy for their bodies.
The Thematic Education III was held on Monday (30/10/23) in Probolinggo City, Kediri District, Tulungagung District and Blitar District. Also, was held on Friday (03/11/23) in Sidoarjo District. In Thematic Education III, elementary school students were given education with the theme of how to consume food wisely with the slogan “Stop Wasteful Food!” or “Stop Boros Pangan!”. This aims to make students get used to being wise in consuming food.
The Endline and Thematic Education IV were held on Friday (10/11/23) in Probolinggo City, Kediri District, Tulungagung District and Blitar District. Also, was held on Wednesday (15/11/23) in Sidoarjo District. In this event, students were given education with the theme of clean and healthy living behavior or Pola Hidup Bersih dan Sehat (PHBS). This aims to make students accustomed to implementing PHBS in their daily lives.
This GENIUS activity is expected to increase the knowledge of elementary school students about nutritious food which is reflected in the maintenance of the nutritional status of elementary school students so that they can realize a healthy, active and productive golden generation 2045. This is in line with the concept of sustainable development, especially in point 2 of the SDG’s which is to end hunger, achieve food security and good nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.
